LUCKNOW: The CBI will conduct an inquiry into the allegations of irregularities and corruption in the recruitments made by the UP Public Service Commission (UPPSC) during the last five years of the Samajwadi Party (SP) regime. The Yogi Adityanath cabinet on Tuesday cleared the proposal for the CBI probe at its meeting here. The Cabinet’s recommendation will now be sent to the Centre.

The CBI, the country’s premier investigating agency, will now conduct an inquiry into the allegations of irregularities and corruption into the recruitments made by the UP Public Service Commission (UPPSC) during the last five years of the Samajwadi Party (SP) regime.

The Yogi Adityanath cabinet on Tuesday cleared the proposal for the CBI probe at its t meeting here.

The chief minister had given an indication about a CBI inquiry in the assembly a few days ago. The Cabinet’s recommendation will now be sent to the Centre.

The CBI will be asked to probe all the recruitment results announced by the UPPSC between March 1, 2012 and March 31, 2017.

The UPPSC had been in controversy for alleged bungling in recruitments and the demand for a CBI probe was being made from various quarters.

Speaking in Vidhan Parishad last week, Devendra Pratap Singh, MLC, had also made the demand for the CBI probe.

In 2015, the then chief minister Akhilesh Yadav had to remove controversial UPPSC chief Anil Yadav after the high court’s rap. His tenure was marred by allegations of patronising people belonging to a particular caste in matter of recruitment, appointment and promotion.

The UPPSC was on the BJP government’s radar from the day it came to power in March. Within a few days of taking oath, chief minister Yogi Adityanath ordered stay on the announcements of all the pending results by the commission and also summoned its chairman, Aniruddh Yadav to his office.
