Soon, ‘forced retirement’ for non-performing babus
LUCKNOW: The countdown for nonperforming babus in UP--those over 50 years of age -- has begun. The district administration is expected to soon announce ‘forced retirement’ for staffers who are considered as performing below optimum efficiency.
District officials said the administration had already starting chalking out names of such employees working in different departments.
“A committee has been formed to carry out the screening. Under this, committee members will prepare a list of non-performers who are over 50 years of age. They will also mention the reason behind the employees’ poor performance, be it bad health or a lethargic / callous approach towards the job,” said an administrative official.
The official added that the district administration covered more than a dozen departments, and the screening exercise was being undertaken in all. The report is expected to be submitted to the government before July 31.
Sources said “a good number of staffers at the collectorate” were likely to be affected by the move. “There are many staffers who have a callous approach toward work. We call it ‘duty bajana’, which means people come here only to mark attendance or take up salary issues. The rest of the days, they are not to be seen,” said the official.
But, some officials are opposed to the initiative, calling it a ‘weird diktat’. “It’s unfair. How can you throw away an officer who has given his most productive years to service? Why give him compulsory retirement ?” asked one.
