In Kovind’s village, every house lit 5 lamps

As Ram Nath Kovind took oath as India’s 14th President on Tuesday, his ancestral village Paraunkh in Kanpur Dehat, celebrated like never before.

While government buildings were illuminate­d, villagers lighted over 1100 earthen lamps at Shikshak Park and also at over a dozen of important road crossings.

As the oath ceremony began, BJP activists burnt crackers and danced in celebratio­n.

Villager also lit five earthen lamps in their respective houses.

Almost at all the important road crossings, the BJP activists could be seen dancing and distributi­ng sweets to the passersby. The building of the Kanpur Municipal Corporatio­n (KMC), Jal Kal Vibhag and the zonal offices of the KMC, DAV College, BNSD Shiksha Niketan and the BNSD College was illuminate­d with colourful lights. The illuminati­on was also done at the house of Kovind in Dayanand Vihar in the city.

People also organised ‘Sunderkand Paath’ at the house of Kovind in Dayanad Vihar.

In Kovind’s ancestral village TV sets were installed at the community places with generator to watch the oath-taking ceremony.

A big TV screen was installed at the Mandi Samiti where hundreds of villagers watched the ceremony and danced with joy. They hugged each other and raised slogans in praise of Kovind.

Meanwhile, the security at the Dayanand Vihar residence of Kovind has been beefed up. Authoritie­s have also been told to ensure facilities in the locality.
