LUCKNOW : A 32-year-old woman was found dead with her throat slit on Sunday morning in a rented room in a crowded Triveninagar locality of Hasanganj area where she had come to stay purportedly with her husband only a week ago. The victim’s husband was found missing.

The police suspected that the victim’s husband murdered her on Saturday night and fled leaving the body. The woman’s identity could not be ascertained as nobody knows her in the locality. The victim’s husband was identified as a Lakhimpur Kheri resident Purshottam alias Sohanlal.

Inspector of Hasanganj police station, PK Jha said Sohanlal is a rickshaw puller and was staying in the same locality for over 8 months. He said the suspect earlier stayed in a rented room at one Pawan’s house and started living at the rented room of one Alijaan’s house since August 1. He said Pawan had asked to vacate the house when he brought along the woman to live with him.

The incident came to light at around 7am when Alijaan pushed the door of Sohanlal’s room after finding no activity inside. Usually Sohanlal was found preparing food and getting ready for his work daily. Alijaan said he was shocked after spotting the woman’s blood soaked body lying in the room and immediately informed the police about the incident.

A local resident told the cops that the woman, who was already married, had reportedly left her first husband and eloped with Sohanlal from her house in Sitapur around one month ago. He said the woman and Sohanlal was here living as a couple since then.

The inspector said a blood stained sickle has been found from the room that suggested the woman was murdered with the same weapon. He said the initial probe suggested that Sohanlal had some confrontation with the woman after which he slit her throat with the sickle in a fit of rage. He said a police team has been sent to Sitapur to ascertain the victim’s identity while another team has been deployed in search of the suspect after registering an FIR of murder in this connection.
