Governor inaugurates National Book Fair
LUCKNOW: Governor Ram Naik inaugurated the 10-day-long National Book Fair at the Moti Mahal Lawns on Friday. This year, the fair is dedicated to spreading awareness on sanitation and environmental issues.
The governor released Sunil Jogi’s book, ‘Ghazal Ghar’ and Shailendra Bhatia’s ‘Safed Kagazz’. He also inaugurated the painting exhibition of Shibona, daughter of Sunil Jogi.
Students of Government Intermediate College put up a spectacular cultural programme on the occasion.
Naik said it was a matter of pride for Lucknow that the book fair was being held for 14 years. “Books are very powerful. The British government had to put a ban on a book penned by Veer Savarkar. Books are our best friends, especially when we are lonely,” he added.
The governor urged people to buy and read books of their interest. He said a book fair succeeds only when people buy books.
Naik expressed pleasure over the book fair themed on sanitation and environmental issues.
Various worldwide publications are participating in the fair.
A kavi sammelan in collaboration with MAA Foundation will be organised at 7:30 pm on August 13. Administrative officers will also take part in it.
The organisers said local writers will be provided space at certain stalls to display their work free of cost.
The closing ceremony of the fair will be hosted on August 20 in the presence of deputy chief minister Keshav Prasad Maurya.
