Ministers review flood situation in Kheri, Bahraich

BAHRAICH/LAKHIMPUR KHERI: UP irrigation minister Dharmpal Singh instructed Kheri officials to remain alert in view of flood threats in the district on Friday. He directed Kheri DM Akashdeep to monitor flood situation regularly and ensure that basic amenities reached flood-hit people.

After making an aerial survey of flood hit areas of Kheri, he told authoritie­s that rescuing people from natural disasters like and to provide all relief to them were priorities of the government.

Accompanie­d by minister of state (independen­t charge) for NRI and flood control Swati Singh and the principal secretary irrigation, the minister was here to review the flood situation.

The Kheri DM informed him that 22 villages had been affected by the floods so far in which 158 houses were damaged. He added that 20 flood relief centres and 40 flood outposts had been set up.

Meanwhile in Bahraich where Ghagra river is still flowing above danger mark at Elgin Bridge and Ghoor Devi, state labour minister Swami Prasad Maurya and basic education minister Anupma Jaiswal visited Golaganj, Pipri and Qayampur villages on Friday.

Maurya distribute­d relief kit to 400 people and provided financial aid cheques to 74 people whose houses were damaged due to flood. He also gave a cheque of Rs 4 lakh to the family whose child drowned in flood.
