NEW DELHI : The CBI has named a serving Intelligence Bureau (IB) official as an accused in connection with its probe into an alleged racket of transfers and postings of government servants.

IB is the domestic intelligence agency of the country. “We have arrested two private people — Rajan Kumar and Arun Tiwari – in the case,” said CBI spokesman RK Gaur.

Besides the two arrested accused — two others named by the CBI in its FIR are IB official Kameshwar and Banay Singh Meena, who is a Delhi Police inspector posted in its security wing. Both Meena and Kameshwar have not been arrested.

According to the CBI FIR, Rajan Kumar was staying in a government accommodation allotted to Kameshwar in RK Puram. The agency officials said Meena had given ~10 lakh to Tiwari for a favourable posting and the money was to be delivered to Kumar in ‘coordination’ with Kameshwar.“During searches we have recovered ~1.6 crore in cash from Kumar. Several rubber stamps and fake letterheads have also been seized,” said the CBI spokesman.

Investigators believe that the bribe money of ~10 lakh was part of the cash recovered from Kumar’s premises. According to the CBI FIR, Rajan Kumar used to claim that he was a senior government servant. But he was in ‘corrupt nexus’ with another private person Arun Tiwari for ‘ensuring undue favours related to transfers and postings of public servants’.

He also claimed to have contacts with ‘high level/senior public officials’ in various departments.

According to the CBI, Banay Singh Meena allegedly conspired with Arun Tiwari to get him a favourable posting for ~10 lakh. It was decided that Rajan Kumar will keep ~7 lakh and Tiwari will get ~3 lakh. Following the alleged deal, Kameshwar gathered information about Meena’s posting/ interview.

BESIDES THE TWO HELD, TWO OTHERS NAMED BY THE CBI IN ITS FIR ARE IB OFFICIAL KAMESHWAR AND BS MEENA, A DELHI POLICE INSPECTOR.
