A woman’s decomposed body was recovered from the garbage dump on the roadside near Mumtaz Degree College in Hasanganj police area here on Tuesday morning.

Police said the body was stuffed in a sack and apparently disposed of in the garbage dump after the woman was murdered somewhere else.

The incident came to light when some locals got alerted after foul play started emanating from the garbage dump.

The stray dogs were also trying pull out flesh from the body. The body was found to be of woman when the police checked it after being informed by the locals.

Inspector of Hasanganj police station, PK Jha, said the body was in very bad form and seemed to be at least a week old. He said the body was stuffed in the sack that clearly indicated that she was murdered somewhere else and later the body was dumped here to conceal the crime.

He said the deceased’s age would be between 40-45 years and the clothes suggested that she belonged to a lower middle class family.

The preliminary probe also suggested that the assailants came in a four-wheeler to dump the body, added Jha.

The inspector said a team was deployed to identify all possible routes to reach the spot and find if any CCTV was installed on these routes.

He added the CCTV footages would also be scanned to track down the four-wheeler that could have been used in the crime.

Jha said the woman’s identity could not be identified through her face but the body had been kept at KGMU’s mortuary for identification process.

He said efforts were being made to ascertain her identity with help of her clothes.

He said all the city police stations’ in-charges and the adjoining district police officers were informed about the recovery of the body and were asked to give details related to any such woman from their respective police station areas.

He said any further lead in the case was possible only after the woman’s identity was ascertained.
