In eight-year-old case of sensational murders of six people including two women and four kids, a city court on Tuesday pronounced death sentence to a 45-year-old man considering the killings as gruesome act of crime. A co-accused woman in the same case was awarded four years of rigorous imprisonment for concealment of evidence to help the main culprit.

The judgment was pronounced by special judge of CBI court, Harish Tripathi after listening to the arguments of the government counsel as well as the defence counsel.

She said Madhuri’s daughter, Sangeeta, 20, was also critically injured but she luckily survived.

of rigorous imprisonment for helping him in concealment of evidences and financial penalty of ₹2,000, she added.

She said the court had allowed 30 days time to the culprits to appeal in the high court.

Sharing other details about the incident, Pathak said Sarwan had axed his wife to death when she was cooking food in her house in Gaura village early morning on April 25, 2009. She said he killed his three kids when they woke up after listening their mother’s screams. She said he thereafter barged into the house of his neighbour Nanha’s house and attacked his mother, sister and son with axe.

She said five people including Sarwan’s wife, kids and Nanha’s mother had died on the spot while Nanha’s son later succumbed during treatment at KGMU’s trauma centre.

The government counsel said Sarwan had committed this crime on facing resistance for his illicit relations with some other woman. She said the neighbours were targeted as they supported his wife whenever he used to beat her on the same issue.
