LUCKNOW:A 24-year-old rape survivor from Mau district along with her brother tried to immolate self in front of gate number 3 of Vidhan Bhawan here on Saturday morning. The girl accused police of inaction and also alleged non-registration of FIR despite repeated attempts.

The girl and her brother were rescued on time before they could light the match stick after pouring kerosene on their bodies.

They were later taken to Hazratganj police station and Mau police authorities were informed about the incident. The authorities have been asked to take proper action in the girl’s allegations of kidnapping and gang rape.

The girl alleged that a local muscleman and his goons kidnapped her when she had gone to market for some work on September 4.

She said she was gang raped by the muscleman and his goons after being held hostage for around three days. She said the accused released her and threatened her with dire consequences.

She said she had approached the police personnel at Dohrighat police station in Mau multiple times but they were not registering her FIR. She said the local police in fact were mounting pressure on her to keep her mouth shut and even threatened with dire consequences. She presented a memorandum to the Lucknow police authorities after being rescued and demanded stern action against the culprits and local cops for inaction.

Sub-inspector Sanjay Kumar Gupta of Hazratganj police station said the girl’s application has been forwarded to the authorities concerned and the girl has been handed over to the Mau police with instruction to drop her home and look into the girl’s allegations.
