Green signal for 3 overbridges in Lucknow

LUCKNOW: Principal secretary, Home, Arvind Kumar on Wednesday directed officers to complete repair work on the Polytechnic crossing overbridge by October-end and open it for traffic movement.
He also directed the PWD to construct overbridges at three busy city crossings -- Munshipulia, Khurram Nagar and Tedhi Pulia -- for free flow of the traffic.
He said the Gomti Barrage bridge will be opened for fourwheelers and two-wheelers soon and added that the crossings on Lohia Path will be modified for smooth traffic movement.
The concerned department officers were directed to shift the divider at Madiaon crossing and allow right turn for Lohia Path traffic by making a cut in the divider near Wave Mall. The works on Kamla Nehru, Nakkhas and Tudiaganj crossings should be completed by October 15, Kumar said.
Kumar gave the directives after a meeting with officers of the urban development department, transport department and urban planning department to streamline traffic movement of the city by removing bottlenecks on roads. The officers informed the principal secretary that in the first phase 63 bottlenecks had been identified on various roads and action was taken to remove them for free flow of traffic.
Also, to free Lucknow from regular traffic jams, the government departments decided to install traffic signals on eight crossing and work has already been completed on seven crossings. Speaking after the meeting, a municipal corporation official said, “To free the city roads from encroachments, a monthly roster has been prepared for antiencroachment drives,”
The municipal corporation officer informed Kumar that vending committees had been constituted and vending zones identified.
