300 shuttlers to participate in state C’hampionship
LUCKNOW: Over 300 men and women shuttlers would be seen in action in the Senior State Badminton Championship, beginning Thursday, at the UP Badminton Academy here.
The three-day championship, which carries Rs 5 lakh as prize money, has inducted mixed doubles for the first time. Abhyansh Singh in men’s singles and Tanisha Singh in women’s singles have been given top seeding in their respective categories.
UP Badminton Association’s secretary, Arun Kakkar informed that winners in both men’s and women’s singles would be richer by Rs 30,000 each. The event also aims to pick up state team for the forthcoming senior national championship, scheduled to be held from November 2 to 8 at Nagpur.
SAI WEIGHTLIFTING
Sports Authority of India’s regional centre here would be hosting the All-India Inter-SAI Weightlifting Championships, starting Thursday. More than 300 weightlifters, including girls, are expected to participate in the three-day championship.

Taekwondo exponent from Lucknow hogged the limelight in the 35th Sub-Junior State Championship at Deoria, winning 17 medals, including four gold, three silver and 10 bronzes. The medal winners, Anushka Sahu, Gayatri Shukla, Ayushi Yadav, Harshita Sachan, Amogh Soni, Anjai Pathak, Kushagra Tripathi, Taral Singham Pranjali Singh, Seet Yadav, Sristi Maurya, Prapti Singh, Rashmi Gupta, Vikash Bharti, Shivan Kumar, Akhil Sharma and Prashant Upadhyay.

A 22-member Lucknow team would be participating in the state level sub-junior athletics meet, scheduled to be held on October 3 and 4, at Bulandsahar.

Ashwani Yadav took four for six as Sandeep Cricket Academy beat Lucknow Cricket Nursery by 82 runs to make it to the semifinal of the 2nd PP Dua Memorial Under-16 Cricket Tournament, at the Christian College ground here on Wednesday.

Jyoti Club and Dhruv Academy Red scored easy wins in the 1st Rajendra Prasad Memorial Cricket Tournament. Jyoti Club thrashed Multi Cricket Academy by 94 runs at Multi-Activity Centre, while Dhruv Academy Red mauled Kalpana Foundation by 116 runs at Rahas Behari Tiwari ground.

Babu Society Boys A and Babu Society Boys B won their respective matches in the Shambhu Nath Memorial Mix Hockey Tournament, at the CB Gupt ground here on Wednesday. Babu Society Boys A defeated SAI Girls 2-0, whereas Babu Society Boys B outplayed Sports Hostel Girls B 4-0.
