Weightlifters from Guwahati hogged limelight in SAI meet
LUCKNOW: Weightlifters from Guwahati hogged the limelight on the opening day of the Sports Authority of India’s All-India Championship, winning three gold medals, at the SAI regional centre here on Thursday.
Rekhamony, Bornali Borah in girls category, and Sankar Lapung in the youth boys category bagged gold medals. Pune centre’s Muna Nayak and Piyush Singh also had gold medals, whereas hosts Lucknow bagged a gold through Pooja Gupta in the 48thkg category of junior girls.

Top seed Abhiyansh Singh and second seed Siddhant Salar got off to a flying start in the Senior State badminton championship, scoring straight games wins, at the UP Badminton Academy here on Thursday.
Abhiyansh defeated Levin Chandra 21-11, 21-2, whereas Siddhant brushed aside Deepak Sharma 21-16, 21-14. In other main matches, Siddhath Mishra beat Anmol Bishnoi 21-16, 21-15, whereas Shivam Mishra tamed Vikas Karamchandani 21-18, 21-14.
MIX HOCKEY
Veterans XI continued their winning streak in the SN Kapoor Memorial Mix Hockey Tournament, defeating Sunrising Star girls 7-1 in a league match, at the CB Gupt ground here on Thursday. Saleem struck a brace, whereas Dileep, Sarvajeet, Nayyar, Yaseen, MS Bohra and Vakil shared five goals between them. In other match of the day, Sports Hostel ‘A’ girls outplayed SAI girls 3-0 after leading by 1-0 at the break. Sonal scored in the 17th and 32nd minutes to put the side 2-0 up, before Shreya completing the formality, striking a penalty corner in the 48th minute.

Multi Activity Centre scored a convincing eight-wicket win against Kriative Club in a league match of the 1st Dr Rajendra Prasad Memorial Twenty20 Cricket Tournament, at the Pt Raas Bihari Tewari stadium here on Thursday. DCA also beat JCC by 17 runs in the second tie.
