LUCKNOW: A city lawyer has approached chief secretary and principal secretary, food and civil supplies, seeking government intervention on petrol crisis that prevailed in Old City after UP STF and district administration seized around half a dozen petrol pumps around six months back. The petrol pumps were found duping the customers by measuring less petrol, using cheat chips.

“It’s a crisis situation in the Old city area. Though the situation is more or less the same in the whole city, in Old city the situation is worse,” said S Mohammed Haider, a corporate lawyer who approached the government on Tuesday, seeking intervention.

“Indeed, UP STF and administration did a wonderful job. But, after seizing the petrol pumps, the agencies didn’t make any alternative arrangements for the availability of fuel to the residents that is adding to the chaos. It’s been more than five months now and no initiative has been taken to resolve the crisis situation,” added Haider.

He said, the three petrol pumps near Medical College and Trauma Centre, besides the Lari Cardiology, one near the Daliganj Crossing, the other opposite King George’s Medical College and one near the City Montessori School , Koneshwar Mandir Circus were a few in the Old city area that are lying closed for the past several months.

“It is causing extreme inconvenience to the patients, their caretakers, doctors as well as the paramedical staff as there are no alternative arrangements made by the authorities concerned,” he said. He said, the government should take some alternative measures in order to restore the supply of petrol that is an essential commodity in the old city area that is worst affected.
