LUCKNOWITES COME TOGETHER FOR ‘DAAN UTSAV’

-

LUCKNOW: From auto rickshaw drivers to employees of multinational companies, school children and homemakers, a large number of citizens have come together to give their time, money, resources or services to the society to celebrate the Daan Utsav week (earlier known as the Joy of Giving week).

The utsav began on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti on Monday and will end on October 8. This year, volunteers from Lucknow and Kanpur have collaborated for an amazing show in both the cities by coordinating around 60 events . Events like ‘Art of Giving’ will be organised to collect the used clothes and footwear which will be distributed among the people of slums and villages in and near the city.

Several city schools like My School, Kangaroo Kids, Modern Academy, Seth MR Jaipuria School, Study Hall and Versatile Scholars also participated in the event. They not only donated crayons and drawing books but also allowed the event organisers to hold events in their schools.

“Seva Mela will be held for seven days in seven villages. The activities like storytelling, theatre, motivational speeches, medical camps and awareness drives about hygiene and health will be held,” said one of the organisers.

The city will witness an event called “Achieve together” in which children from villages and slums will come together to learn new skills such as dance, art, craft and much more.

Later, they will present the learned skills on stage. “This year, we are also using the concept of wish trees. We will put up some wish trees in different location with cards on them. Anybody can use a card and donate anything they want by just writing their name and number on the card,” said the organiser.
