Four persons posing as courier agents robbed the wife of a retired judge after sneaking into her house in Virat Khand, Gomti Nagar here on Tuesday afternoon.

The miscreants sedated the woman after entering the house and then snatched away her ‘mangal sutra’ and earrings.

According to sources, Parvati, wife of retired judge Vijay Bahadur Yadav was alone in the house when the incident happened.

The retired judge had gone to Deoria for some work. He is posted as chairman of cooperative terminal board, while the couple’s son Siddhartha is a practising lawyer in the Supreme Court.

Superintendent of police (SP), North, Anurag Vats said the victim told the cops that she opened the door when someone rang the door bell around 12 pm and found four youths standing outside.

He said the miscreants posed as courier agents and asked the woman to collect her courier by signing a paper.

He said she allowed one of them to enter the house.

The victim said the miscreant forcibly made her sniff some sedative, after which she lost consciousness and slumped to ground after some time.

The SP said the miscreants took along the victim’s ‘mangal sutra’ and ear rings while other things in the house were found intact.

He said a police team is trying to extract more details about the miscreants’ appearance to get their sketches prepared.

Vats said initial probe hints towards the involvement of an insider as the miscreants were aware that the woman was alone at home.

He said a police team is scanning video footages of CCTV cameras installed in nearby areas and hopes to find some clue about the miscreants.

He said the police teams are also scanning call details of some suspects and soon the case is likely to be cracked.

Senior police officials including inspector general (IG) of police, Lucknow range, Jai Narain Singh and senior superintendent of police (SSP), Lucknow, Deepak Kumar rushed to the spot and examined the crime scene.
