Samajwadi Party patron Mulayam Singh Yadav and party’s national president Akhilesh Yadav came together on a public platform after a gap of 11 months, following the rift in the family, to pay tributes to party ideologue Dr Ram Manohar Lohia on his death anniversary.
LUCKNOW: Samajwadi Party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav and party’s national president Akhilesh Yadav shared a public platform after a gap of 11 months following the rift in the family, at Ram Manohar Lohia Park in Lucknow on Thursday.
The father-son duo paid tribute to party ideologue Ram Manohar Lohia on his death anniversary. Akhilesh has met Mulayam twice in the past fortnight. Their public appearance has once again triggered speculation of a possible rapprochement in the Yadav family.
Incidentally, the family feud started around the same time in October last year when the then chief minister Akhilesh Yadav had sacked his uncle and minister Shivpal Yadav from the government. Shivpal accompanied Mulayam to Lohia Trust office on Vikramaditya Marg but skipped the function.
Akhilesh touched the feet of Mulayam and both posed for the shutterbugs in front of Lohia’s statue. Mulayam drove in a golf cart with Akhilesh at Lohia Park and waved at jubilant party workers.
The duo chatted in between the

slogan-shouting by party workers. Addressing party workers, Akhilesh said differences were there in every family but only a few were singled out.
He urged party workers to gear up for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. “We have nothing to lose. We will gain. The people of the state are waiting for an opportunity to vote SP back to power,” he said. “We have to prepare for the 2022 assembly elections too. This government is not carrying out any development and people have now seen through their false promises,” he said.
Referring to the arrest of party MLC in an old case on Wednesday, Akhilesh said the SP workers were being targeted by those in power as his party enjoyed a strong vote bank. Akhilesh said he had the blessings of his father.
He claimed that the projects initiated by his government were being re-launched by the BJP.
