UP Congress leaders, workers celebrate Rahul’s elevation
LUCKNOW: There was an atmosphere of festivity at the state Congress headquarters here and at the party’s offices across UP soon after the announcement about Rahul Gandhi’s election as the new president of the Congress was made in New Delhi on Monday.
Besides distribution of sweets and sending of congratulatory messages, there were fireworks and party offices were bathing in light at a number of places in the state.
District Congress Committee (DCC), Rae Bareli, passed a resolution congratulating Rahul Gandhi and thanking Sonia Gandhi.
“We passed a resolution congratulating Rahul Gandhi and thanking Sonia Gandhi for the election. There were grand fireworks and the partymen celebrated the election by exchanging sweets,” said Rae Bareli district Congress committee president VK Shukla.
“Amethi also celebrated in style. Partymen across the constituency distributed sweets and the DCC office was illuminated. There are fireworks too,” said Amethi district unit president Yogendra Mishra.
Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee (UPCC) headquarters that had been illuminated for UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi’s birthday last week witnessed Diwali like decoration on Monday as well.
“There were celebrations at UPCC headquarters and partymen distributed sweets at a number of places in the state capital,” said UPCC spokesman Amarnath Agarwal.
“Rahul Gandhi has been working hard in the party. His elevation will bring the youth to the party fold. His election marks the beginning of a new era,” said Congress MLA Aradhna Mishra.
Uttar Pradesh Youth Congress leaders said the youth were feeling enthused with Rahul Gandhi’s elevation. “We are sure more youths will come to the party’s fold now,” said former Uttar Pradesh Youth Congress leader Mukesh Chauhan. Another party leader said Rahul Gandhi was likely to take over on December 16 and there will be celebrations that day too.
