When the two met in the park in Badaura village, around 5 km from Khalispur village, locals spotted them and informed police.

A police team, led by Jansa police station in charge Anil Kumar Singh, reached the spot and brought the ‘love couple’ to the police station. Singh informed the kin of the duo and called them to the police station.

Later, in the presence of their parents, Bihari and Reena declared their love for each other and expressed their desire to get married. Village head Shivprakash Singh, who also reached police station, persuaded the parents of the two to agree to the marriage. After a little resistance, the the parents gave their consent for the marriage of Bihari and Reena.

Singh said, “The parents of the girl gave Re 1 as ‘shagun’ (mark of auspiciousness) to the youth’s kin. Later, Bihari and Reena were taken to the temple in the vicinity of the police station and married off in a traditional way.”

Singh said police personnel made arrangements for the marriage of Bihari and Reena. Priest Rangnath Dubey chanted the ‘mantras’ during the marriage.

Talking to HT, Singh said that Bihari and Reena were in love for over the last two years. “They were sitting in the garden when locals informed us. A police team reached the spot and brought them to the police station. They told us that they were in love and wanted to marry so we arranged their marriage with their parents’ consent.”

“It was a completely dowryfree marriage,” he said. “The couple left happily for their home,” he added.

Speaking to HT, Bihari said, “I never imagined that I would get married in such a way. What is interesting is that the police made arrangements for my marriage. I have got my love. Now, I along with my wife, will go to Mumbai. I am happy that my marriage is completely dowryfree. Those who preach a lot about dowry-free marriage should practice it in true sense.”
