Man kills wife over ‘illicit relationsh­ip’, arrested

LUCKNOW: A man killed his wife suspecting her to be in an illicit relationsh­ip with his friend in Natkur village under Sarojini Nagar police station here in the wee hours of Thursday. The man was reportedly under the influence of liquor when he committed the crime.

The deceased, Poonam, 27, was married to Kamal Kishore in 2010. The couple has two daughters, aged six and three years. Kishore, who is a tube well mechanic, suspected that his wife Poonam had illicit relationsh­ip with one of his friend.

According to reports, in the wee hours of Thursday, Kishore hacked Poonam to death with a sharp edged weapon. After killing her, Kishore fled away from the house. On Thursday afternoon, family members of the deceased got informatio­n about her murder over phone.

After getting the informatio­n, Kamlesh, brother of the deceased, reached her residence along with other family members. He lodged an FIR at the Sarojini Nagar police station against Poonam’s husband.

Cops recovered the weapon used to commit the crime from the house and sent the body for post-mortem examinatio­n. Later in the day, police arrested the accused Kamal Kishore from near Charbagh railway station while he was planning to flee.

Dharmendra Kumar Shahi, station office, Sarojini Nagar, informed that the Kamal Kishore was in an inebriated state when he was arrested from near Charbagh railway station. “Proper interrogat­ion could not be carried out as the accused was under the influence of liquor when he was arrested,” said Shahi.

“It is suspected that Kamal killed his wife suspecting her to be in illicit relationsh­ip with his friend who is also a tube well mechanic,” he added.

According to villagers, Kishore was a drunkard and used to thrash his wife over trivial issues. Poonam’s family members took her daughters along with them.
