LU plans to introduce research in Vedic lit

-

LUCKNOW: Students at Lucknow University will now be able to pursue research in Vedic literature, especially with reference to its science, art and cultural aspects. The university plans to introduce this course as Vedic literature offers easy solutions to many problems, said an official.

“We need to look deeper to find out answers and solutions. Understanding Vedic literature is the core to understanding India’s culture and rich heritage,” said said Prof NK Pandey, LU spokesperson.

To develop a consensus in this regard, LU has called a meeting of all deans on Friday to discuss ways to introduce research on Vedic literature in the university.

He said, “It is believed that the Indian Vedic literature and philosophical thoughts do have solutions for modern-day problems and also have scope and dimension for human and national development.” When asked if this was another attempt to push Hindutva agenda in academics, Pandey denied it. He said Vedic literature is rich in content.

“It can be an excellent handbook to some of the common problems, which common man faces in day-to-day life,” he said.

In the past, the university established a Chair in the name of Pt Deen Dayal Upadhyay, co-founder of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh (the ruling BJP’s forerunner) to promote his ideology by holding seminars and workshops to publicise his ideologies.
