Japanese tourist looted at Mughalsarai rly station
VARANASI: A Japanese tourist, who reached Mughalsarai on Thursday, alleged that his bag containing clothes, important travelling documents including visa and passport, was stolen by a person claiming to be a guide from Varanasi.
According to police officials, Akiro Tanaka, 20, got off the train at Mughalsarai on Thursday morning when a man claiming to be a guide contacted him. While they were speaking, the man snatched his bag and ran away.
GRP officials said that Tanaka went to the office of deputy superintendent of the station SK Singh and narrated the incident. Singh informed GRP and RPF sleuths and a team reached his office.
Singh later provided ₹1500 to Tanaka and instructed GRP and RPF sleuths to take him to tourist helpline in Varanasi.
Assistant tourist officer Vikas Narayan said that Tanaka along with the GRP team contacted officials at Varanasi tourist helpline at Cantt railway station.
“A train ticket to New Delhi was arranged for Tanaka who was also given ₹1,500. He boarded Mahamana Express for New Delhi. After reaching New Delhi, He would go to the Japanese embassy.”
He was provided money required for the fare from New Delhi railway station to the embassy and was given address and numbers of the Japanese embassy, Narayan said, adding that Tanaka lodged a complaint at Sigra police station. Police said an FIR had been lodged following Tanaka’s complaint.
