Lucknow boys in state hockey semi-finals

LUCKNOW: On a day when a few teams left the tournament without playing their last league matches, hosts Lucknow, Varanasi, Faizabad and Bareilly made it to the semi-finals of the Pt Deen Dayal Upadhyay Senior State Men’s hockey tournament, at the Padamshree Mohd Shahid Hockey stadium here on Thursday. Lucknow defeated Saharanpur 2-0 in their last league match. Mukesh Ram and Abid shared two goals between them. In other league matches of the day, Meerut split points with Azamgarh after playing a 2-2 draw, Agra beat Devipatan 3-0, Varanasi beat Aligarh 2-0, Basti held Saharanpur for 1-1 draw, Lucknow beat Chitarkoot Dham 4-1, Faizabad beat Mirzapur 6-1.

In the semi-final on Friday, Varanasi take on Faizabad at 1,00 p.m., whereas Lucknow meet Bareilly at 2.30 p.m.

DPS TRIUMPH

Delhi Public School emerged winner in the CBSE Sahoday Chess Championsh­ip at Manipal School on Thursday. Krishna Vamsi and Kopal Vishwakarm­a bagged the under-19 boy’s and girl’s trophy, respective­ly while Adarsh Pal and Lavanya clinched the under-16 title.

FINE VICTORY

Lucknow’s National Cricket Club scored yet another win in the All-India Twent-20 Super Cup Cricket League in Haryana on Thursday, defeating local outfits Drona Public School by 43 runs. After scoring 119 in 20 overs while batting first after winning the toss, National Cricket Club got the rivals out for 76 in 17.1 overs. Rajneesh Awasthi (31) and Vijay Chauhan (36) were the main run getters for the NCC. Krishna Tripathi, Mayank Srivastava, Vansh Khurrana and Vijay Chauhan took two wickets each.

JNPG LIFT TROPHY

Jai Narain PG College (JNPGC) lifted the Qamaryab Jilani Memorial Cricket Trophy, defeating Mumtaz PG College by seven wickets, at the LDA stadium here.

MIRZA SOCCER

Super Sports Academy defeated Chowk Sporting by 7-6 in tiebreaker in a match of the Captain Qaiser Mirza Memorial football tournament, at the Chowk stadium here on Thursday. The two teams were locked in 1-1 draw at the end of the regulation time. Shekhar put the winners ahead in the 20th minute, whereas Himanshu struck for Chowk Sporting in the 40th minute.
