One held in Mainpuri gang rape case; CM takes note

AGRA: One of the three men accused of gang raping and burning a girl in Mainpuri was arrested on Friday night. A report on the status of the case has been sent to chief minister Yogi Adityanath, who had sought the same from the SP and the district magistrate.

AGRA: One of the three youth accused of gang raping and burning a girl in Uttar Pradesh’s Mainpuri was arrested on Friday night. The arrested accused has been identified as Sachin Gupta.

Mainpuri superinten­dent of police S Rajesh said, adding that a hunt is on for the other two accused --- Ashish Gupta and Panchi Jatav.

The SP also that a report on the status of the case has been sent to chief minister Yogi Adityanath, who had sought the same from him and the district magistrate.

The SP has sought financial assistance for the victim. The girl, who turned 18 recently, was set on fire by the three youths after she complained to the police that they had been gang raping her for the last six months.

She suffered 40% burn injuries on her body, including stomach, and was being treated at Saifai hospital in Etawah, but was shifted to Delhi’s Safdarjung hospital. SP Rajesh said Mainpuri MP Tej Pratap Singh Yadav too had taken note of the matter.

The girl, a BSc student, was with her grandmothe­r (85) in their house when she was allegedly set on fire.
