Soon, e-rickshaws won’t be allowed on 33 prime routes
LUCKNOW: Citizens can hope to expect better vehicular movement in the days to come as the district administration along with the transport department is going to ban the movement of e-rickshaws on 33 prime routes in Lucknow, including Hazratganj.
In a recent meeting on city’s traffic conditions, both the departments chalked out a proposal to restrict the movement of e-rickshaws.
“In recent times, the growing number of e-rickshaws have become a major cause for traffic jams. Thus, a proposal to restrict their movement has been chalked out,” an administrative official said.
Officials shortlisted 33 prime routes, on which the movement of the e-rickshaws would be barred.
These include the 2-km radius around Hazratganj, Hazratganj-Charbagh, Charbagh Alambagh, Charbagh-Polytechnic, Polytechnic via Nishatganj, Polytechnic via Fun Mall, Piccadilly-Rajni Khand, Awadh Crossing-Teli Bagh and Charbagh to Munshipulia via Bhootnath.
If the records with the Regional Transport Office (RTO) are to be believed, the city currently has over 15,000 registered e-rickshaws and the number
is on the rise.
It’s not for the first time the district administration has termed the e-rickshaws as ‘growing nuisance’. In 2015, the administration had launched a drive to limit the growing numbers of e-rickshaws.
They had also launched a drive against e-rickshaws plying illegally in the city and constituted an ‘enforcement team’ to seize the unregistered e-rickshaws.
District magistrate Kaushal Raj Sharma said the e-rickshaws would be allowed to move on routes apart from those shortlisted.
A drive is also being launched to check e-rickshaws plying illegally.
