Destitute woman patient goes missing from hospital
LUCKNOW : A ‘mentally disturbed’, destitute woman patient went missing from Dr Ram Manohar Lohia hospital on Saturday evening.
The 40-year-old woman was to be operated upon for a fracture in the limb and was admitted here since November.
Doctors were waiting for her haemoglobin level to come to the optimum level and also for her mental condition to become stable before they operated. Hence she was recuperating in a ward of the hospital.
Dr AK Trivedi, who had planned the operation on the woman, said she was under psychiatric treatment to ensure she did not harm herself by removing plaster .
“She was becoming normal and her operation was planned. I could not see her during the ward rounds since January 4. As we could not locate her anywhere on the campus I have lodged a police complaint now.”
As the woman had no family member or attendant, she was admitted as a destitute patient since November 26,2017 at bed number 36 in ward number 3. She was being looked after by the nursing staff of the hospital who had named her ‘Noorie.’
The woman’s absence was first noticed by the nursing staff who reported the matter to the hospital administration.
A missing report was lodged by the hospital administration with the Vibhuti Khand police station .
Hospital director Dr DS Negi said, “The woman was in the habit of moving away so she was kept under observation. ”
This was not the first time Noorie went missing.
About a month back, when she was staying in a shelter home on the hospital campus, she went missing but was found with the efforts of the hospital’s nursing staff.
The role of the hospital’s security staff is under scanner now as movement of all patients is under their watch.
the hospital has several entry and exit points and security personnel are deployed at all of them during the day and night in shifts.
