‘Anti-Romeo squad’ docu to hit the screens soon
LUCKNOW: Now, a documentary film is being made on chief minister Yogi Adityanath’s muchhyped initiative, ‘anti-Romeo squad’. Abhishek Tandon, maker of the film, claims the documentary has the blessing of the chief minister.
‘Anti-Romeo squads’ were constituted to prevent eve teasing and harassment of women after the Yogi government’s formation in March 2017, at police stations-level and action under Goonda Act was taken against wrongdoers.
Tandon says the 25-minute documentary is based “on facts and projects the real intention of the government.”
The film shooting began on January 4 and is being shot in cities of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, said Tandon, who has also written screenplay and dialogues for a few Bollywood films.
The film is being made under the banners of ‘Savera Production’ and ‘Chitralekha Productions’. This film, along with three other documentaries, will be screened at a short-film festival to be held in Lucknow in March 2018, Tandon said.
The state government’s move, however, invited criticism from several quarters following allegations that the police were invading the private space of citizens.
The opposition even sought central government intervention into what they alleged “violation of the Constitution” in Uttar Pradesh by allowing ‘anti-Romeo squads’ to “ridicule democracy and the freedom of youngsters”.
The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad high court, in March, upheld the UP government’s move to set up the ‘anti-Romeo squads’.
The court, however, cautioned against overreacting and said the police must act only as per law and not do anything “outside its purview.”
Tandon claimed he is making the film in the right spirit. Besides, there are three more documentary films that will be screened at the festival. These are ‘December 30’, ‘Door Bell’ and ‘Lakhere’.
The film ‘December 30’ was based on demonetisation and it has the blessing of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Documentary ‘Door Bell’ shows the divine power within every human being that protects them from evil intentions of any body.
‘Lakhere’ is a story of an unemployed youth who eventually got the right path in life and joined the Indian Army.
The star cast of these three films are: Shivendra Varma, Gautam Batra, Deepak Baijal, Avinash Shukla, Namrata Rai, Kalpana Singh and Anurag Tripathi.
