Theft of calves: 2 paraded with halftonsur­ed heads

VARANASI: Residents of Rasra town in Ballia district got the heads of two men partially tonsured and paraded them for their alleged involvemen­t in the theft of two stray calves during the wee hours of Monday, police said. Circle officer Awadhesh Kumar Chaudhary told the HT that a case had been registered against the two. He said a probe had also been ordered to identify the people who got their heads tonsured and paraded them in the area.

VARANASI: Residents of Rasra town in Ballia district got the heads of two men partially tonsured and paraded them for their alleged involvemen­t in the theft of two stray calves during the wee hours of Monday, police said.

Circle officer Awadhesh Kumar Chaudhary told the HT that a case had been registered against the two youths for their alleged involved in the theft.

He said a probe had also been ordered to identify the people who got their heads tonsured and paraded them in the area.

“Station house officer of Rasra police station has been asked to carry out a probe and submit a report within the next 48 hours. Action will be taken against the residents who tonsured their heads and paraded them,” Chaudhary said.

Police said the residents also forced the men to carry a board displaying the message: “Hum chor hain (We are thieves).”

Police said the two men, identified as Sonu Kumar and Uma Kumar of Nagpura area, allegedly stole two stray calves roaming near Srinath math and were taking them towards Kasimabad town. The residents nabbed them and informed mahant Kaushalend­ra Giri about the incident. They allegedly got the heads of the two men partially tonsured and paraded them in the area.

On receiving the informatio­n, a police team led by inspector, Rasra, JC Yadav reached the spot and took the accused with them. An FIR was lodged against the two on the basis of the complaint lodged by the residents.
