Employees’ strike hits teaching at LU

LUCKNOW: Teaching and official work remained badly affected at Lucknow University on Monday as the employees went on a strike . Teaching in the commerce and English department­s was the worst hit as these department­s could not be opened on time due to late availabili­ty of keys.

Vice chancellor SP Singh held a meeting of the deans of faculties, HoDs, provosts and other officials of the university to take stock of the situation in view of the strike call given by the employees unions. The teachers informed that no such major problem was faced in running the classes.

“On Tuesday it will be ensured that the department­s are opened in time,” said LU spokespers­on NK Pandey . It may be mentioned that during the strike from Monday onwards, all the regular registers have been removed and employees have been directed to sign on plain sheets in a given format.

As per informatio­n received from attendance sheets, nearly 200 employees signed the sheets in different department­s and reported on duty. Some 38 employees remained absent after signing the sheets. Many others did not turn up.

the university has written letters to the principal secretary to the governor, deputy chief minister Diensh Sharma and the additional chief secretary of higher education department, explaining the position of the university vis-a-vis the demands and strike of the employees.

The university has declared demonstrat­ions and slogan shouting on the campus illegal. The decision was taken in view of the employees’ decision to go on strike from Monday.

The demands of the employees include regularisa­tion of contractua­l staff and roll back of transfer order.
