Missing the 100 percentile mark by a whisker
LUCKNOW: Badaun girl Neelika narrowly missed the 100 percentile mark . A student of the Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET), she scored 99.94 percentile in CAT 2017, the result of which was declared on Monday.
“I’m really happy as two women candidates made it to the list of 100 percentile. I came close to it but just could not cross the finishing line. Mathematics this year was probably easy as compared to the previous year and it helped,” she said.
Neelika, who is in final semester of electronics and communications, secured 99.68 percentile in verbal ability and total reading comprehension, 99.30 in data interpretation and logical reasoning and 99.66 in quantitative ability.
She said, “Students drawn from diverse group always make a campus better. I took a lot of mock tests at a coaching that helped.”
Harshit Omar from IIT-Kanpur also secured 99.94 percentile in CAT 2017.
Barabanki man, Sharad Mishra (30) who mentors candidates for the common admission test at a coaching institute also appeared for the examination and scored 99.92 percentile.
“I wanted to test my knowledge domain and hence I took the test. CAT can be conquered with 100 percentile. I missed it by a whisker. No regrets. I prepared hard and tried my best,” Sharad told HT.
In verbal ability and reading comprehension, Sharad scored 98.15 percentile, in data interpretation and logical reasoning 99.47 percentile and in quantitative ability 99.89 percentile. His overall percentile is 99.92 with overall scaled score of 208.94.
“As a teacher and mentor of those preparing for CAT, it is my moral duty and responsibility to prove myself. If I cannot score 99 percentile and above, I should stop teaching,” said Sharad who teaches students at Team Satyam. This is for the second time he appeared in CAT. Last time it was in 2013 when he scored 99.43 percentile. He post-graduated from Indian Institute of Foreign Trade in 2015 and took a job with a US company for about two years
His father is an officer in the rural bank in Barabanki. Sharad has a dream to help other students to crack this tough examination and make a life in management business somewhat on the lines of Super 30.
Three of his students Sushmita Gupta (99.57 percentile), Manas Sinha (99.49 percentile) and Namrata Sharma (99.09 percentile) have also done well in the exam.
