State minister Mohsin Raza’s marriage registered
LUCKNOW: State minister Mohsin Raza finally got his marriage registered on Monday after completing all the formalities at the district collectorate office. Raza, who reached the collectorate with his wife Fauzia Sarwar Fatima and other witnesses, was handed over the marriage certificate by the additional district magistrate (ADM) trans- Gomti.
This was his second attempt to get his marriage registered . In August 2017, two day after the UP cabinet gave its nod to the UP Marriage Registration Guidelines—2017 (making registration mandatory for marriages in UP), the minister had approached the district administration and filed application to register his marriage. But his marriage could not be registered as he did not turn up within 90 days of filing the application. The minister had blamed the administration for not initiating any communication in this regard. On Monday, the registration was finally completed, almost 17 years of marriage.
The UP Government’s move had also got support of clerics and Muslim bodies. Shaista Amber, president of All India Muslim Women Personal Law Board (AIMWPLB) had said it would not only minimise frauds but also give social security to individuals. Similarly, the All India Muslim Personal Law Board had also supported the Yogi government on this move but had said there should not be the provision that unregistered marriage would be considered null and void.
