ALIGARH: A woman from Iglas tehsil of Aligarh has approached external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj for the return of her husband, Azad Khan, 24, who is stuck in Dammam city of Saudi Arabia after his employer refused to release his passport.

Khan’s wife, Ghazala said he had gone to Dammam for a driver’s job and his employer was torturing him.

Ghazala, accompanied by her father-in-law Shahzad Khan and mother-in-law Arzoo, went to the Iglas kotwali and submitted a complaint in this regard and requested cops to get her husband released.

“My husband had gone there for the job of driver through a Delhi agency (Al Jiawah International agency) and a relative. He was on a two-year contract and reached the residence of the employer, Sheikh Ali Abdulla Ali Al Yami in Dammam city on

October 15, 2017. He got salary for the first month, but the employer didn’t pay him after that,” said Ghazala, a resident of Bayohi village falling under Iglas police station.

She alleged, “My husband is being treated inhumanly. Apart from driving, the employer is also asking him to do all domestic works. If he refuses to do such work, he is assaulted.”

“I am also in contact with the agency since two months, but they are not giving any satisfactory response,” added Ghazala.

“In his video call, Azad said that the sheikh claims that he has spent a large amount of money on his travel (Rs 1 lakh in Indian currency) and he will charge that amount for freeing him,” she said. Ghazala said she had written a letter to Union external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj for help as the police were not taking any interest in the case on the pretext that it was an international matter.

Vinod Kumar Mishra, assistant sub-inspector, Iglas, said: “As Azad Khan has gone to Saudi Arabia from Delhi, the FIR will be registered there. Action will be taken according to the direction of higher officials.”
