Women’s Handball League from Friday

LUCKNOW: In a first of its kind, the Handball Federation of India would be conducting three-day Mega Women’s Handball League, starting Friday at the Karnail Singh stadium in New Delhi.

HFI’s newly appointed chairperso­n Alka Das on Monday told that top 66 players of the country, including many an internatio­nal stars, would be seen in action in the six-team league, which is being organized with the support of Kan Sports World.

The participat­ing teams include, Delhi Fighters, UP Challenger­s, Haryana Panthers, J&K Eagle, Himachal Snatchers and Punjab Pacers.

“HFI wants to raise the standard of women handball in the country and the event is first such step in this direction,” HFI’s secretary-general Anandeshea­r Pandey said on Monday.

DPS Jankipuram scored a convincing 45-run win against CMS Chowk in a league match of the Foundation Cup Inter-School cricket tournament on their home ground here on Monday. BRIEF SCORES

Alok Mishra smashed 58-ball 87, which contained 10 fours and a six as Gulmohar Cricket Academy defeated IPRK Club by six wickets in the Ekmi Devi Memorial twenty20 cricket tournament, at the Pt Raas Bihari Tewari stadium here.

In other match of the day, Tariq Cricket Club defeated Divine Cricket Club by 44 runs.

SAUABH EXCELS

Saurabh Dubey scored 35 runs and then took three wickets to help North Eastern railway crush Indian XI by 52 runs in a league match of the Subodh Memorial Twenty20 cricket tournament on Monday. In other match of the day, AICC beat UP Timber Club by 20 runs.

YCC IN QUARTERS

Young Challenger Club (YCC) stormed into the quarterfin­als of the Under-16 Sports Cricket Trophy, defeating Arya Cricket Academy by five wickets, at the Christian College ground. While chasing 170 in 40 overs, YCC romped home in 37 overs with Shiv Dhiman hitting highest 83.
