LUCKNOW: A Class 1 boy was stabbed with a knife allegedly by a senior girl student at a private school here on Tuesday.

Hrithik Sharma, 6, who suffered injuries on chest, abdomen and the left eye, has been placed under observation at KGMU’s trauma centre for 48 hours.

“The child is not out of danger, hence is under observation. We still need to decide whether to operate upon the injury in the abdomen. But that will be done tomorrow,” said Prof Sandip Tiwari, incharge of KGMU Trauma Centre.

Hrithik told his parents that a girl took him inside the bathroom of Brightland School in Aliganj’s Triveni Nagar locality and inflicted multiple injuries on him with a knife.

While the incident took place on Tuesday, the school administration reported the matter to the police only on Wednesday after the victim’s picture went viral on social media.

According to police, the victim boy told his parents and the school authorities that a girl with “boy like hair style” took him to the bathroom on the second floor of the school building when he was going to attend the morning assembly around 10.20 am. “Before the attack, the girl told the boy that a teacher has asked her to punish him,” victim’s father told police. After injuring the boy, the girl locked him inside the bathroom and fled.

School’s director Rachit Manas said the incident came to light when the school’s discipline in-charge Amit Chauhan went on a round to see if every student was out for the morning assembly. He said Chauhan heard screams of the boy from the bathroom and brought him out.

“We immediately rushed the boy to a near-by hospital, from where he was referred to KGMU’s trauma centre,” said Manas adding, “The boy’s parents were also immediately informed.”

The boy’s father Rajesh Sharma is a class four employee at the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court.

Sharma has asked the school administration to identify the girl as soon as possible as her presence could harm other children too.

Additional superintendent of police (ASP), trans-Gomti, Harendra Kumar said he himself visited the school premises twice on Tuesday after coming to know about the incident. He said the police team with help of school authorities was trying to zero in on the girl on the basis of details narrated by the boy.

He said the boy had identified a girl but she has completely denied attacking him and so help of counsellors was being sought to talk to girls with similar appearance and identify the attacker.

The incident has refreshed the memories of the horrifying incident at a Gurgaon school, where a minor boy was stabbed to death allegedly by a senior student to postpone the parent teacher meeting of the school.

LUCKNOW: The stabbing of a Class 1 boy by a senior girl in a Lucknow school, a grim reminder of a recent Gurgaon school incident, has once again caused apprehension among parents about safety of their children on school premises.

The incident has left guardians in a state of shock, wanting to know if there is any way to put an end to such incidents. After the Gurgaon incident, the state government took a number of steps to ensure safety of children in school. But the Brightland school tragedy has exposed that all claims were hollow.

District Inspector of Schools, Mukesh Kumar Singh on Wednesday sought explanation from Brightland School principal and management for not reporting the incident to him and not lodging a police complaint on Tuesday itself when the incident took place. In a letter to the school, Singh sought a detailed report about the incident.

The DIOS has also asked schools to install CCTV cameras at every nook and corner of their premises. He has banned use of smart phones on school premises. The incident has also left principals shocked. Geetika Kapoor, principal of St Teresa’s College, Ashiana said, “Such incidents are increasing highlighting the disadvantages of the eworld.”

She said, “It is scary to see the direction of a child’s psyche who wants to harm an innocent youngster. The pressure and stress on the teachers and school authorities is increasing with such incidents increasing. My prayers for the speedy recovery of the child and I hope the girl is identified as soon as possible”.

After the Gurgaon incident, the then DGP Sulkhan Singh issued an advisory that CCTV cameras be installed at every entry & exit point and other places in schools.

DIOS ASKED THE SCHOOL MGMT WHY THEY DID NOT REPORT THE INCIDENT TO HIM AND NOT LODGE A POLICE COMPLAINT ON TUESDAY WHEN THE INCIDENT TOOK PLACE
