Man held 13 years after procuring forged passport

LUCKNOW:UP Anti Terror Squad (ATS) arrested a Bihar resident from Chaudhary Charan Singh airport here on Tuesday night for fraudulent­ly procuring passports about 13 years ago. The man, along with four others, had procured passports on forged identities from Lucknow regional passport office in December 2005 and was in Kuwait to work there as a carpenter since 2006.

Inspector general (IG) of police, ATS, Asim Arun said the accused, Ugrah Singh alias Ram Ugrah Bhagat, was arrested when he returned to India from Kuwait and landed at Lucknow airport. He said Singh and three others Raees Ahmad, Mohd Bahaudeen and Mohd Chand Babu procured passports on forged identities on January 31, 2005 and moved to Kuwait for work in 2005 and 2006.

He said the ATS sleuths came to know about issuance of four passports nearly after four years and an FIR was lodged at ATS police station on November 11, 2009. Recently, a lookout notice for them was issued on December 6, 2017.

He said Singh was intercepte­d by immigratio­n staff when he landed at Lucknow airport on Tuesday.

The ATS was informed about him following the lookout notice. He said the ATS team arrested and quizzed him about the fake passport racket. Initially, he said he got his passport prepared through an agent of Deoria and paid ₹12,000 for it.

The team is trying to check his credential­s and links in India and abroad.
