NEW DELHI: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has rescheduled the examination date for Class 12 physical education paper to April 13 from April 9. The CBSE change comes after it was pointed out that the Joint Entrance Exam (Main) — for entrance to technical institutions — is slated for April 8, a day before previously scheduled Physical Education exam.

The exam was rescheduled days after students, parents and teachers expressed dissatisfaction over the Class 12 exam schedule. “Due to administrative reasons, the examination date for the physical education (subject code 048) for Class 12 stands revised,” the board said in a statement on Wednesday.

All other examination dates for both Class 10 and 12 remain same, the statement said.

The Class 10 and 12 exams under the CBSE will begin from March 5. The Class 12 exams will end on April 12 and Class 10 on April 4. The entire exercise will be completed in 38 days that will give more time for evaluation, a CBSE official said.

A total of 28.24 lakh students have registered for the Class 10 and 12 exams.

on March 20, followed by mathematics on March 21, raising concerns that with no break in between, preparations could get affected and lead to stress.

For the humanities stream students, three exams have been scheduled without break from April 5 to 7 — psychology on April 5, political science on April 6 and legal studies on April 7. Physical education exam is scheduled on April 9 after the gap of a day.

CBSE officials said that some papers do not have any gap as under the present system students opt for subjects from different streams for the board exams and it was not possible to keep the exams apart.

An official said that the schedulers made the date sheet in a way so that all the 200 subjects were covered by the first week of April as competitive exams such as the JEE start after that.
