Big cat kills another farmer

BAREILLY: A 50-year-old farmer was killed by a tiger from Pilibhit Tiger Reserve(PTR) , his partly consumed body being found near the reserve on Tuesday evening. This is the second such death in Pilibhit this week.

The total number of those killed in feline attacks since October 2016 now stands at 22.

Confirming the incident, divisional forest officer (DFO) of Pilibhit Tiger Reserve (PTR) Kailash Prakash said,” The deceased has been identified as Mathura Prasad of Nijampur village under Se hr am au police station.

His partly consumed body was recovered from the fields near the Haripur range of PTR.”

The tiger attack apparently occurred on Monday night when Matura Prasad was guarding his farm. The tiger dragged him near the hedges some 300 metres away from the farm where his body was recovered.

“Mathura Prasad went to the farm on Monday evening. We started searching for him on Tuesday when he did not return home in the morning,” said Rakesh Prasad, Mathura Prasad’s cousin.

“Flesh from his lower limbs was missing . We recognised the body from the torn pieces of clothes near it, ,” he added.

The family members reported the matter to the local police. A police team of Sehramau seized the body and sent it for post mortem examinatio­n.

Local unit of forest departmnet also reached the spot and carried out a combing operation to find the killer tiger.
