Special youth made police station in-charge for 2 hrs
LUCKNOW: The Lucknow police reached out to a 21-year-old mentally challenged youth with a humane gesture and made him in-charge of the PGI police station for two hours on his birthday (Friday).
The youth, Sahil Singh, always aspired to wear the khaki uniform, but couldn’t pursue his dreams because of his illness.
Clad in khaki, Sahil occupied the chair of the in-charge and gave instructions to other police personnel to resolve the problems of visitors coming to the police station.
He was all smiles as constables saluted him and followed instructions.
The youth’s father Dr Rajnish Kumar Singh, who is with the critical care medicine unit of the Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences in Lucknow, approached SSP, Lucknow, Deepak Kumar that helped the youth fulfill his wish to be a police officer on his birthday.
“It is the best gift I received on my birthday,” said Sahil. He said he went out for patrolling in a police jeep and inspected police duties at many points.
He even asked cops to get haphazardly parked vehicles removed.
Sahil walked through the market area, sensitising people for not parking their vehicles on the roadside that often blocks traffic near the SGPGI turn.
AK Rai, inspector of PGI police station, praised the gentle and mature behaviour of Sahil. The SSP said he accepted the doctor’s request to fulfill his son’s desire as a part of community policing.
