SAI’s winning streak continues
LUCKNOW:Last year’s runners-up Sports Authority of India continued their winning streak in the 8th sub-junior men national hockey championship (A Division), drubbing Hockey Gangpur-Odisha 7-2 in a Pool A match at Saifai on Friday.
In other league matches of the day, Hockey Odisha beat Hockey Bhopal 6-0, Hockey Karnataka defeated Hockey Maharashtra 10-2, Hockey Haryana beat Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu 13-1, Namdhari XI blanked Hockey Punjab 5-0 and Hockey Odisha beat Hockey Bihar 4-1.
While dominating the match from the very start, SAI forged into lead through Kallu Ali, who converted a penalty corner in the 25th minute. Ranjan Toppo and Sarada Nand Tiwari then scored in the 29th and 31st minutes respectively to give Sports Authority of India a 3-0 lead.
Sudeep Chirmako the skipper of the trailing team stepped up and scored a goal in the 33rd minute to put an end to the first half with the score-line of 1-3.
He had his second goal in the 49th minute to make the scores 3-2.
However, Sports Authority of India played aggressively in the second half, scoring four more goals. Sarada Nand Tiwari came back into action to score twice in the 51st and 56th minute to complete his hat-trick.
