Hindustan Doublothon draws enthusiastic crowd
LUCKNOW:Residents of the capital city participated with enthusiasm in ‘Hindustan Doublothon’ organised on Sunday morning. The event included half-marathon and cycle race for the participants.
Despite the cold morning, a large number of kids, youth and elderly from different walks of life came to enjoy the event that started at Ambedkar Park and concluded at Janeshwar Mishra Park. Many participants were taking selfies and posting them on social media groups.
Athlete Gulab Chand, javelin thrower Suman Devi, hammer thrower Gunjan Singh and other sports personalities also participated in the event. The race was flagged off by IAS Raj Shekher.
In the under 14 category for boys, ( 2 kilometres) Sneh Kumar got the first position and in girls’ category Anamika won the race. Ravi Pal won the 5 kilometre race in boys’ category and Kavita in the girls’ category. “Such events give us an opportunity to change the daily morning routine. And the event being on Sunday, it was great fun ,” said Prof Ashish Kumar, head of the sports medicine department at KGMU who came with his wife to participate in the race . He said making physical activity a part of life was key to good health. In the cycle race also, young and old, men and women all participated with full enthusiasm. Participants said it was not winning the competition but participation that was most important .
“Getting out of home in the morning is a good experience,” said a participant.
