New DGP to take charge tomorrow
LUCKNOW:Newly appointed DGP OP Singh is likely to take charge on Tuesday.
The appointment committee of the cabinet on Sunday approved the proposal of the ministry of home affairs for premature repatriation of Singh, who is serving on the post of DG, CISF, to his cadre.
Under secretary, ministry of home affairs, Mukesh Sawhney in a letter to chief secretary Rajive Kumar said DG, CISF, OP Singh has been repatriated to his cadre with immediate effect.
Principal secretary, Home, Arvind Kumar said Singh was likely to take charge on Tuesday.
After Sulkhan Singh retired as DGP on December 31, the state government had requested the centre to relieve Singh.
The suspense over the appointment of Singh on the top post in the state police continued for 20 days.
There was no communication from the centre regarding relieving of Singh. On Friday,

the state government reminded the centre about its request for the repatriation of Singh.
A 1983 batch IPS officer, Singh has vast experience having served as district police chief in Almora (now Uttarakhand), Bulandshahr, Lucknow, Allahabad and Moradabad. He served on the post of ADG, NCR and DG, NDRF.
An alumnus of St. Xavier’s College, the National Defence College and the Delhi University, he holds a master’s degree in political science, an MBA in disaster management and an M.Phil degree from the Madras University.
He has held several positions in UP and at Centre, addressing issues of internal security, crime investigation, law & order, intelligence and managing mega events like the ‘Kumbh Mela’ in Allahabad.
