After Pratham’s century, Ansh hits double ton for UP

LUCKNOW : A day after Pratham Mishra’s sparkling century on Saturday, favourites Uttar Pradesh batsmen continued to dominate against Maharashtr­a even on the second day of their fourday Under-16 Vijar Merchant Trophy quarterfin­al at Pune, scoring 500 plus runs in their first innings.

It was Pratahm Mishra (114, 140b, 13x4, 3x6), who set the tone for team’s big total along with Ansh Yadav, who remained unbeaten on 82 at the end of the first day’s play on Saturday. On Sunday, Ansh not only went on scoring his century, but struck a double century, helping the side score 585 in 163.4 overs in their first innings. In reply, hosts Maharshtra were 33/0 in 14 overs at the end of second day’s play. AS Dharmadhik­ari (16) and SD Walekar (15) were at crease at draw of stumps on Sunday.

Maharashtr­a still trail by 552 runs with all 10 wickets in hand.

Ansh while resuming at the overnight score of 82, went on attacking the Maharshtra bowlers, hitting, cutting and pulling to all the rival bowlers at his mercy. During his 448-ball unbeaten 269, Ansh hammered as many as 40 boundaries. SCORECARD Uttar Pradesh (1st

Meanwhile, on the opening day of the Central Zone league of the Under-14 Raj Singh Dungarpur Trophy in Meerut, Vidarbha scored 310/5 in 98.1 overs against hosts Uttar Pradesh. Danish Malewar made an unbeaten 163 in 231 balls with the help of 27 fours and a six, whereas Faiz struck 226-ball 10-3, which contained 13 hits to the fence. For UP, Anant Bhatnagar and Yash Kumar shared four wickets between them.
