Hosts Uttar Pradesh in sub-junior hockey quarterfin­als

LUCKNOW : Hosts Uttar Pradesh scored a thrilling 3-2 win against Hockey Odisha to make it to the quarterfin­als of the 8th sub-junior men national hockey championsh­ip at Saifai on Sunday.

Suraj Singh struck a brace for UP, whereas Subash Barla and Mithias Dung scored a goal each for Odisha as the two teams were 2-2 draw at the break. But after a change in ends, Ajay Yadav struck the all-important to ensure UP’s win. Earlier in the day, Hockey Gangpur-Odisha crushed Hockey Maharashtr­a 18-1, Hockey Jharkhand beat Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu 12-2 and Hockey Bihar beat Hockey Bhopal by 8-0.

STATE HOCKEY

Hosts Lucknow eves defeated Devi Patan 8-0 in a league match of the state women’s hockey tournament, at the Padamshree Mohd Shahid Hockey stadium here on Sunday. Mumtaz Khan struck four goals, whereas Simran scored a brace. In other match in the category, Meerut beat Jhansi 5-0.

In the men’s section matches, Bareilly beat Basti 6-1, Agra beat Moradabad 5-4 in shoot out and Gorakhpur beat Bareilly 4-1.

ASCA LOSE

Lucknow’s Abhijeet Sinha Cricket Academy lost to Garia Cricket Academy, Kolkata by 25 runs in the final of the All-India Under-15 cricket tournament in Kolkata on Sunday.
