Pramod Sharma elected as new chairman of Cantt Board
LUCKNOW:Pramod Sharma is the new chairman of the Cantonment board.
He was elected after a secret ballot in the meeting of Cantonment board house on Friday. Sharma defeated his nearest rival Amit Shukla by a margin of 2 votes.
The former chairman of the board Anjum Ara (ex wife of dreaded gangster Saleem) was removed on January 27 after the no confidence motion was passed against her by the Cantt corporators.
Pramod Sharma will serve his term for 2 years as Anjum Ara has already served three years in the office and the maximum tenure of the chairman is five years.
Meanwhile, the police of Cantt area was on high alert on Friday on apprehension of some violence during polling.
There was tight security in the area. However, the entire polling process passed off peacefully.
The police had also removed supporters of all the corporators from CEO Cantt Board Amit Kumar Mishra’s office before the election of new chairman.
After getting elected, Pramod Sharma promised rapid development in Cantt, especially to address problem of poor roads and water supply within a year. He also promised beautification of all the crossings with the support of local traders.
He said he will involve locals in development of the area.
