LUCKNOW: The Gomti Express is getting a fleet of plush coaches and would be seen in a new avatar from March 17. On Friday, Northern Railway (NR) general manager inspected the ‘Shan-eAwadh’ coaches bearing beautiful paintings of heritage structures.

The Gomti Express was cancelled almost a month back in wake of the facelift. The train would be restored on March 17.

‘Shan-e-Awadh’ coaches are an innovative endeavour of the Coach Care Centre, Lucknow aimed at providing enhanced amenities through refurbishing of existing mid-life coaches.

Vishwesh Chaube, GM, NR also inspected an on-display rail-cum-road-vehicle (RCRV). The vehicle, built on a truck chassis, is equipped with rescue and relief equipment.

“In case of emergency, this vehicle is designed to cut down time and provide quick relief to passengers who may be stranded in cases of train accidents at locations easily approachable by road. The RCRV, built in Germany, would be the first such machine in the entire Indian Railways to be commissioned for providing fast relief and rescue,” said a senior NR official.

The GM inspected the Lucknow-Kanpur rail section. He was accompanied by Satish Kumar, divisional railway manager (DRM) Northern Railway Lucknow and other officers. He also participated in a 120 kmph speed trial on the ManaknagarAmausi-Piparsand rail section on which 28 bridges, six level crossings and 10 curves are located.

The GM inspected the Harauni station as well and inaugurated a new foot over bridge there and reviewed a demonstration of the modern 3-X Tamping Express, a technologybased track machine which aids continuous action tamping thus enabling increase in output and quality.
