Tension in Etah after fire in religious place

ALIGARH/ETAH/KASGANJ: Fire broke out in a religious place in Aliganj town in Etah district, leading to tension on Friday.

However, police took swift action, dousing the fire and making it clear that it was not an act of arson but an accident.

Higher police officials also reached the spot and soothed frayed tempers. Etah SP Sanjay Kumar told HT, “Fire broke out in a religious place in Mewati locality of Aliganj town after burning candles fell on a heap of incense sticks (agarbattis). As the doors were of fibre, the fire spread. After controllin­g the fire, the people were informed about what actually triggered it and were pacified. No group has lodged any written complaint but force has been deployed as a precaution­ary measure.”

the charge of demolishin­g the dome of a religious place in Amapur village, said Kasganj SP Piyush Shrivastav­a.

Kasganj district magistrate RP Singh told HT, “Satsang of Shiv Hari Bhole Baba to be held in Soro town of Kasganj on February 6 has been prohibited in view of Section 144 imposed in the district.”
