Lucknow feels the heat: Mercury soars to 33.9 degrees
LUCKNOW: The city got a feel of the summer heat as the mercury soared to 33.9 degrees on Monday. The city also recorded a low of 14.6 degrees, showing a huge difference between the maximum and minimum temperatures. “The wide gap between the day and night temperatures is because skies are clear during daytime while the north westerly winds lead to a dip in temperatures during early morning hours,” said JP Gupta, state met director.
The day and night temperatures in Lucknow on Sunday were recorded at 33.5 and 15 .4 degrees respectively.
Gupta said the weather conditions are likely to be similar in the next couple of days. A difference of only 1-2 degrees is likely in the night temperatures, he said.
The conditions remained similar across the state as a number of stations recorded maximum temperatures around 34 degrees. The minimum temperatures were around 16 degrees at most stations. Varanasi remained the hottest during the day at 35.8 degrees. It was followed by Jhansi that recorded a maximum of 35.6 degrees, Allahabad 35.5 degrees, Hamirpur 35.2 degrees and Agra 35 degrees.
Those driving two-wheelers have started covering their face as the heat has already started making movement difficult during daytime. “The variations in temperature call for extra caution. Sudden temperature changes may lead to illness. Thus special attention needs to be paid during this season,” said Dr Ashok Kumar.
