STPs to generate power from sewer water

-

KANPUR : The solid waste and sewer water that till now flowed into the Ganga and gave rise to pollution would now be harnessed to generate power. “This would not only help to meet the power demand of the city but would also help in reducing pollution,” said Ghanshyam Diwedi, project manager of Ganga Pollution Control unit. He said for this, turbines would be installed at every sewerage treatment plant (STP) and the common effluent treatment plant (CETP). There are about eight STPs and CETPs in the city where the turbines would be installed, he said and added that the first one would be installed at the 210 MLD STP at Binagva.
