13 killed as bus falls into gorge in Uttarakhand

DEHRADUN: Thirteen people were killed and 12 injured after a bus fell into a gorge in Almora district of Uttarakhand, police officials said on Tuesday. The accident occurred on the Ramnagar-Ranikhet road near Totam village, around 80 km from the district headquarter, around 8am. The bus, with 25 people on board, was headed to Ramnagar. A team from the state disaster response fund (SDRF) was pressed into rescue operations. Prime facie it seemed that the bus was speeding and the accident occurred when it tried to avoid hitting another vehicle, officials said.
