Forest guards suffocate to death while on tiger search

WEST MIDNAPORE: Two Bengal forest department staff died of suffocatio­n inside a special vehicle while on a mission to spot a tiger that has spread panic among villagers in West Midnapore district for more than a week. The incident happened in the wee hours on Tuesday. The area is not far from Jharkhand. The special vehicle is fitted with powerful lights and sirens that are used to drive away wild elephants. A small generator placed inside the vehicle powers the lights and other equipment. While people on board are supposed to keep the windows open when the generator is on, the two deceased forest officials kept the windows tightly closed.
